Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs said that the pilot scheme will be launched on Tuesday.  Indian embassies have been requested to assist the people interested to subscribe for PILF.  Non-resident Indian organizations have been advocated to advice the scheme.

The PILF scheme will be applicable to those Indian workers who hold a work permit/ employment contract, aged between 18- 50 years.  The applicant’s passport should carry ‘Emigration Clearance Required”.

Under PILF scheme the applicant has to pay Rs. 5,000 for membership.  The government will contribute Rs 2,000. The amount will be Rs 3,000 is the applicant is of domestic help.

Minister Ravi said, “The pension will commence after age 60. This is a life insurance scheme. It will help people save for old age and save for resettlement.”

Most asylum seekers travelling by boat to New Zealand have not made it to New Zealand. In fact, recently 10 asylum seekers tried to reach the shores of New Zealand , but finally made their claim in Australia.

Recently 3 major changes were brought about to the New Zealand immigration laws:

• Introducing new group warrants for “mass arrivals”. This measure is to stop illegal immigrants over 11 and nearing about 500 by issuing group warrants, rather than individual warrants. This makes it easy to identify potential illegal risk groups and how they can prove a threat to the country. The New Zealand would be able to warrant immediate threats, rather than facing clogged courts and long lasting paperwork in dealing with these illegal immigrants.
• The second change will make it necessary for asylum seekers applications to be reassessed 3 years after making their claim before they are allowed permanent residency.
• The third change will be placing a limit on family reunification for mass arrivals. This would mean that asylum seekers would be able to sponsor their immediate family, that is their spouse and children, but they would not be able to sponsor their extended family such as parents of adult asylum seeker or adult siblings.

These changes will apply only to illegal mass arrivals. Initial reading of the bill will be done in the coming session and it will be passed by the end of this year.
