New Zealand is a well developed country with good economic status. New Zealand encourages skilled migrants from all over the world to come and work in New Zealand permanently. New Zealand General skilled migration program is divided in to three main categories, they are:

Permanent Residence: This category is for immigrants who become eligible for permanent residence status in New Zealand based on the qualification, work experience or approved job offer.

Work to Residence Permit: this category is for immigrants who do not qualify for New Zealand PR immediately but have sufficient skills to support the economy of the country. After 2 years this permit can be converted into permanent residence.

Residence from Work Permit: Migrants who are already in New Zealand, working since 2 years holding Work to Residence Permit or General Work Permit can apply for New Zealand PR.

How should one prepare for General Skilled Migration?

New Zealand Immigration process goes through 3 stages as mentioned below:

Filing Expression of Interest [EOI]

IELTS [International English Language Testing System]

Invitation to Apply for New Zealand PR

The first step for New Zealand immigration is to file an Expression of Interest. It is advised to consult best New Zealand Immigration consultants before you proceed. Immigration consultants will help in filling the EOI form correctly, submission of the required documents related to your education, work experience, tax records, career achievements etc.

If you cooperate well with the consultants & follow their guidance in submission of documents, your process can start immediately.

Prepare yourself for the IELTS test that checks your English ability. This test is expensive & challenging. Hence a good preparation before taking the exam is very important. Listen to English news channels, watch English movies & try to speak the way they do. Try to get their accent. This is very helpful in IELTS Listening Exam. Due to communication problems most of the migrants are not able to find related employment in New Zealand. Even if you have sufficient skills and qualification but if you are not able to communicate, all your qualifications become useless.

Once your application is accepted, you will get an invitation to apply for New Zealand PR. In this stage you will have to go through medical test & complete all the paper works. Here you will have to go through personal interview with you Visa Officer. If you perform well you will be granted the Permanent Residence.

Amidst pending comprehensive immigration reform, the United States has proposed several steps – including changes in the F-1 and H-1B visas – to attract foreign skilled workforce, a move likely to benefit professionals from countries like India.

Prominent among these reforms include providing work authorisation for spouses of certain H-1B visa holders, 17-month extension of optional practical training (OPT) for F-1 international students to include students with a prior degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, allow for additional part-time study for spouses of F-1 students and allow outstanding professors and researchers to present a broader scope of evidence of academic achievement.

In addition, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that on February 22, it would launch its ‘Entrepreneurs in Residence’ initiative with an Information Summit in Silicon Valley.

This will bring together high-level representatives from the entrepreneurial community, academia and federal government agencies to discuss how to maximize current immigration laws’ potential to attract foreign entrepreneurial talent.

These moves are in support of President Barack Obama’s, efforts to meet 21st century national security and economic needs, the Department of Homeland Security said, adding that he is deeply committed to fixing our broken immigration system so that it meets national security and economic needs.

As a part of comprehensive immigration reform, Obama supports legislative measures that would attract and retain immigrants who create jobs and boost competitiveness in the US, including creating a “Startup Visa,” strengthening the H-1B programme, and “stapling” green cards to the diplomas of certain foreign-born graduates in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

A survey reveals that most of the Indian students are choosing public universities against private ones in US because of the dropping value of rupee … Continue→

A survey reveals that most of the Indian students are choosing public universities against private ones in US because of the dropping value of rupee against dollar. Nearly 100,000 Indian students get registered in the US universities every year.

But according to a report from a career counseling website large volume of these students prefer universities with low fees. The survey also revealed that in 2011-12, 43% of the students applied for public universities, where as for this year the volume raised to 62%.

Mohit Gundecha, CEO and co-founder of the website, told IANS,”Students seem to have applied most to universities like San Jose State University and University of Florida while the popularity of private universities like North Eastern University saw a decline in applications.”

Out of the 1,000-plus respondents, a majority of 40% students applied for universities with fee between $15,000 and $20,000. Whereas 27 % said they opted for universities with a fee above $25,000, some 16 % said they have applied for universities with a fee between $20,000 and $25,000. Another 17 % chose universities with a fee below $15,000.

Gundecha said, “Indian students are stuck in the dilemma between affordability and preference to top universities, with the rupee falling and touching more than Rs.50 to a dollar, the incidental increase in tuition fees to study abroad has become a concern for aspiring students.”

In US, Indian students make the 2nd largest group of overseas students after china. In 2010-11, 103,895 Indian students took admission in US universities, while the number was 104,897 in 2009-10, marking the first decline since 1998-99.

Gundecha said, “This season, there is a visible increase in applications to public universities which are easier on the pocket for students and their parents. The study also shows that there is a visible interest in applying for scholarships and interest-free loans to offset the increased monetary pressure.”

According to the survey, universities with low fees include North Carolina State University, San Jose State University, State University of New York and University of Texas.Gundecha said the number of students seeking scholarship has increased.

Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, which will introduce online electronic visa system, has started installing internet lines at the information departments of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, Xinhua reported citing the Yangon Times.

The move will facilitate world visitors in those countries where there is no Myanmar embassy. Some airlines arranged visa-on-arrival for visitors from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Ahead of the country’s general election in November, 2010, Myanmar regranted the visa-on-arrival service of its kind, which was halted in September during the same year. In 2011, the number of tourists arrival at Myanmar’s Yangon International Airport reached a total of 359,359.

Also, Myanmar is implementing a plan to extend and upgrade the Yangon International Airport into an international airport that is capable of handling 3.8 million passengers a year and providing full service needed to attain an international airport’s standard.

There are six domestic airlines in Myanmar including the state-owned, Myanmar Airways, and five private-run, Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways, Air Bagan, Asian Wings and Kanbawza. There is also another Myanmar international airline, the Myanmar Airways International (MAI), flying solely some foreign destinations.

Besides the MAI, which flies internationally as Myanmar’s national flag carrier, there are 13 foreign airlines flying Yangon comprising Air China, China Southern Airline, China Eastern Airlines, Thai Airways International, Indian Airlines, Air Asia, Taiwan region’s China airlines, Silk Air, Malaysian Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Jetstar Asia, Thai Air Asia and Vietnam Airlines.

There is good news for all foreign travelers who are going to visit London for watching the Olympics Games. Heathrow airport has announced construction plan of a temporary terminal for the convenience of Athletes and visitors during the Olympic Games. This will improve the accessibility to the terminal & immigration checks at Heathrow Airport and help in accommodating the crowd.

‘Games Terminal’ will be the departure point for an estimated 10,100 athletes after the end of the Olympic Games. Hence it becomes quite necessary to manage the predictable surge in passenger numbers resulting in an increased immigration and visa checks increase during the Games.

According to Heathrow airport, August 13th, the day after the London Olympics closing ceremony will be the busiest day ever in the History of Heathrow. It is assumed that there will be 35 % more departing bags than on a normal day. Heathrow is also expecting a 45% increase over the usual number of arriving passengers on 26 July, the day before the Opening Ceremony. The ‘Games Terminal’ will operate between 13 to 15 August and is expected to divert up to 10,100 people and 37,900 bags from other terminals. It will contain 31 check-in desks and be dismantled after the games. No flights will leave from the terminal. Athletes will be bused to departure lounges. Immigration and visa check will continue to be dealt with in the main terminals.

Nick Cole, head of Olympic and Paralympics planning at Heathrow, said, “The London 2012 Games will be a unique operational task and a massive challenge for Heathrow. The airport is one of the most popular international airports in the world and already operates close to capacity. Every part of the airport is working together to ensure we can give the athletes a warm welcome and ensure all passengers enjoy the atmosphere.”

This news follows an earlier announcement from UK immigration stating that Olympic VIPs will be given dedicated immigration and passport lanes at Heathrow.

The process for UK Olympics Visitor visa have already started, so people who are interested in visiting Olympics can contact Opulentus and apply for the visa as soon as possible. Airport in order to fast-track the entry of 25,000 athletes, coaches and officials.

Barack Obama, President of US issued an order to encourage tourists from India; China & Brazil. Following this, US Embassy has announced measures to ease the visa process for Indian travelers.

James Herman, Minister Counsellor for Counsular affairs at the US Embassy in India said, “We are looking at a 14% increase year-on-year in visas issued in India across all categories till 2020. After the executive order following President Barack Obama’s announcement on the thrust on tourism from India, China and Brazil, we’re hoping to achieve faster processing and lower wait time for all visa categories.”

For the Fiscal year 2011, which ended on 30th September 2011, the US consular team processed nearly 700,000 visas.

The announcement made by US embassy will make sure that more tourists to the US will have a positive impact on short term business travelers, as US issues B1 visas for business visitors and B2 for tourists.

Mr Herman said, “There were over 130,000 Indians who travelled to the US under the business executive programme last year. Fiscal year 2011 also saw a total rise in numbers of 3000 for Indian business visas.”

He also said, “ The BEP, which is a fast track visa programme for some Indian companies who are large users of different categories of US visas, covers the short term B1 as well as long-term employment categories such as H1B and L1 categories. “The programme has been streamlined and is now managed out of our Chennai consulate general.”

He also verified that there were very few companies under BEP programme in 2011 compared to 2010. For 2011 the number of visas seen under BEP programme was very less. Few Indian companies had come under the scanner for visa misuse in the US and it is believed that many have been removed from the BEP. In efforts to streamline the BEP, the US embassy is planning proactive outreach with business representatives in India and BEP Forum programmes with companies.
